With the chocolate filling up supermarket shelves and an extra-long weekend ahead, it’s so tempting to indulge all weekend! And don’t get us wrong, you absolutely deserve a treat or two (or three!) these holidays, but there’s no reason you can’t stay healthy at the same time.
Here are a few tips to help keep you on track:
Treat yourself
It’s Easter! We all deserve to enjoy some chocolate eggs and delicious hot cross buns over the weekend – just keep it in moderation and make sure to eat regular, healthy meals throughout the day.
Start the day well
There’s a reason people say ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’. Starting the day with a balanced meal of protein, fibre and energy will help keep you feeling full and stop your blood sugars from going into a spin when you have some of that delicious chocolate. Our favourite breakfasts are sugar-free muesli with Greek yoghurt and banana, or a berry protein smoothie.
Move your body
If you can, stick to your regular exercise regime. Not only will it keep you feeling energized and boost your mood, it’ll also help burn any extra calories. If you can’t stick to your usual routine, don’t stress! Enjoy the holiday and try to keep your steps up by going for a walk each day.
Keep healthy alternatives around the house
Stock up your fridge with fruit and other healthy snacks high in protein and fibre. Having plenty of healthy alternatives available when you’re feeling like a snack means that you don’t have to rely on chocolate that will give you a quick energy burst, but won’t sustain your hunger.
Remove the guilt
It’s Easter, and you should enjoy the holiday with friends, family and delicious food! Permit yourself to have some chocolate, hot cross buns and other yummy treats without feeling guilty about it. Life would be pretty boring if we only ate healthy food 100% of the time and if you’re following the tips we listed above, there is no reason to feel any guilt for enjoying yourself this Easter.
Hopefully, these tips will help you set the right mindset to stay healthy this Easter, while also indulging in some chocolate!
